Toddler Tuesday – August

This Toddler Tuesday was spent learning all about how to keep our bodies healthy and happy.  We learned about which foods belong in each food group, what kinds of foods to fill our plates up with, and even did some fun exercises!

We started by learning a little about the human skeleton and all our body parts by singing “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”:

Headdd...shoulders, knees, and toes...

...and eyes, and ears, and mouth, and nose

Where are your noses?

Does anyone have a glass of milk with dinner?

Show me your knees!

Next, we learned what foods are healthy to eat, and which foods to stay away from.

Is this a healthy or unhealthy food?

Are all these foods unhealthy?

Say cheese with mom!

These all look like healthy foods

Working together to sort the food

Then, Brittany taught us which foods belong in the different food groups, and what types of foods we should put on our dinner plates.

Hm, is bread a grain or vegetable?

Mom says to put some chicken on my plate

Cutting out all the different foods

Someone's having fun working on their dinner plate!

Where should I put the spinach, mom?

Hm, watermelon or pineapple?

Looks like all the food groups filled up his plate!

Your plate looks like it has some yummy food

Lastly, we headed outside to learn how exercise can keep us healthy. We raced through an obstacle course to get our heart rates up!

Hop like a bunny through the hoops!

Made it through the tunnel!

Weave through the cones quickly!

Anybody in there?

Hop like a kangaroo...

Whew, that was hard work!

We had a great time this Tuesday learning all about healthy bodies. We hope to see everyone back next month for a morning learning all about animals!

Toddler Tuesday – July

This Toddler Tuesday we learned all about water!  We discussed what water’s used for, where you can find water, and what you wear while playing in water.

Coloring the states of matter

Say cheese!

We visited the Explorium to learn all about the different states of water–solid, liquid, and gas–and where we can find water in all these forms.

Does anyone like playing in the water?

Does anyone help water their garden at home?

Has anyone in Lubbock been ice skating? No...?

Next, we headed into the Sculpture Court to trace our toddler’s body and “dress” them in clothes for a trip to the beach or pool!

Tracing bodies requires family teamwork!

Tracing all the way down to their toes...

Action-man pose!

Stay very still...

Is your swim suit pink?

Let mom do the tracing

Should you wear sunglasses?

We headed outside to participate in some fun water activities! We had a “sink or float?” station, a big pool of bubbles, and tubs full of water toys!

Pool of bubbles!

Ready to water some flowers

Cup of water!

What does the water feel like?

Does a tennis ball sink or float?

Splish splash

Lots of tubs full of water!

Hmm... what's in there?

Working together

Get those duckies in the water!

Whoa, that's a big bubble!

Crowded at the watering hole

Filling up a basket with water

This was the perfect activity for a hot, summer day in Lubbock! We hope to see everyone next month for Toddler Tuesday all about exercise and healthy bodies.

Toddler Tuesday – “Fly Your Flag”

Today we learned all about the American flag in honor of Flag Day!

Brittany read us the story Red, White, and Blue by John Herman.

We started by reading a story about our flag

How many stripes are on our flag?

How many stars?

Now let's learn the Pledge of Allegiance

After learning all about our flag’s history and what the symbols on it mean, we decided to make our very own unique flag!

What should my flag look like?

Green dots - perfect!

A pink and purple flag!

Let's glue some pretty paper on here

Look at this, mom!

Sometimes using scissors requires teamwork

That flag looks fluffy!

How colorful!

This orange paper would look good on my flag

What do you think about my blue polka dots?

Family teamwork is great!

Cutting requires concentration...

Quite a colorful flag - awesome!

Brittany gave us flags to take home, too! Now everyone is ready for the 4th of July!

Flying your American flag!

Very patriotic

Two flags!

Red, white, and blue

That's a pretty flag!

Flying my flag

Toddler Tuesday is always a fun time!  Now we know all about the history of the U.S. flag, what the stars and stripes mean, and how to make our very own flag!  Next month is all about fun with water.

Sorting seeds from different plants

Brittany read us the story "Fran's Flower"

"Does anyone here have a garden at home?"

Coloring all the parts of a flower

What will these seeds grow in to?

Hm, what color are a flower's roots?

Books About Flowers:
Fran’s Flower by Lisa Bruce (our choice for Toddler Tuesday!)
The Surprise Garden by Zoe Hall
The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
Planting A Rainbow by Lois Ehlert
