Runway Show: Wedding Dresses!

On Saturday, November 19, 2011, The Museum of  Texas Tech University (MoTTU) hosted a runway show of wedding dresses designed by some of the most talented students in the TTU Fashion Design program. We presented the event in cooperation with Ms. Rachel Anderson, Instructor, Apparel Design and Manufacturing, in the Department of Design within the Texas Tech University College of Human Sciences. Rachel and her students were very professional and great fun to work with.

We want to thank the Helen Jones Foundation for making the runway show possible. The event was created to add interest to the year-long exhibit at MoTTU, They Weren’t Always White: Wedding Attire from the Museum’s Collection.

This event was created from an original idea initiated by a former staff member in the Education Division at MoTTU, Brittany Chunn, the former Assistant Curator of Education at the Museum. Brittany, unfortunately moved to another job in another state and was not able to be with us, but we think she would be pleased with the results.

We want to thank the many talented student designers, and their beautiful models, for helping to make this event an amazing, one-of-a-kind success for the Museum. 

We completed the afternoon with a beautiful reception, including food, punch and a beautiful wedding cake! The students created the decorations for the chairs, tables and runway, and the flowers were beautifully designed by Jennifer Francis at Town South Floral, here in Lubbock.

We were very honored to have with us Mrs. Myra Timmons, Professor Emeritus, College of Human Sciences. Timmons (left) was one of Rachel Anderson's instructors while a student herself in the Fashion Design program at TTU. The runway show, the reception, the students and the models, all helped to create a very fun, and lovely, day.
